Product information:
Tommy Pitfield was a twentieth century Renaissance man. He was a composer, artist, poet, writer, teacher, ornithologist, and probably much else which his modesty shielded from public notice. But it is his music he served most devotedly, as both educator and composer. In his music he shows ingenuity, imagination, inventiveness, wit and versatility. Thanks to the generous assistance of the Pitfield Trust, Heritage presents a disc of Pitfield’s piano music, an hitherto unexplored corner of his oeuvre, which features many world premieres. Duncan Honeybourne is an utterly convincing advocate.

Toccata; Solemn Pavan ; The Circle Suite ; Capriccio; Diversions on a Russian Air; Novelette; Three Bagatelles; Impromptu on a Tyrolean Tune; Two Russian Tunes; Sonatina No.2; Five Short Pieces; Prelude, Minuet and Reel; Little Nocturne; Humoresque; Homage to Percy Grainger; Cameo and Variant

‘…..this engaging collection of piano works curated and played by Duncan Honeybourne…… charming and gentle output for the instrument. This is music of nuance and appeal, which I imagine many users will find attractive, but never trivial or bland……. With fine, sensitive playing and excellent sound throughout, this is a splendid tribute to a largely forgotten master.’ Guy Rickards, Gramophone April 2025
