The much-respected figure in British music life of the 1950s and 1960s and a German emigre, Franz Reizenstein was equally accomplished as composer and pianist aside from being an influential teacher. Philip Martin performs a selection of his piano works including the impressive second sonata and the Lambeth Walk Variations – a ‘party piece’ featuring skilled pastiche – the theme appearing in the style of Chopin, Verdi, Beethoven, Mozart, Schubert Wagner and Liszt.
