Heritage presents a disc of twentieth century Scottish piano music performed by Richard Deering. Four works by William Wordsworth are represented, amongst them the imposing Piano Sonata. Wordsworth’s piano music has been unjustly neglected on record until very recently. Deering completes his recital with works written especially for him – Thomas Wilson’s Incunabula and Edward McGuire’s Prelude 7 and Six Small Pieces in C Major.

‘Idiomatic and insightful readings by Richard Deering……… Deering is so evidently attuned to this music………those wanting the major works cannot go wrong with this anthology.’ Richard Whitehouse, Arcana FM

‘This excellent CD contains the best of it {Wordsworth’s piano music}, including the splendid, large-scale three movement Sonata and the powerful Ballade, which is arguably Wordsworth’s most striking piano piece. Richard Deering plays these with aplomb, as he does works by Thomas Wilson and Edward McGuire which were written for him. Wilson’s Incunabula freely uses dodecaphony, and is grittily dramatic, but powerful and coherent throughout a wide range of expressive territory, while the McGuire pieces are slighter, but readily accessible and attractive.’ Chris Rice, Records International
