Charles Wood (1866-1926) Centenary Recording
Heritage presents a disc of music for string quartet by Charles Wood, performed by the Bridge String Quartet, renowned for their interpretations of lesser-known British repertoire. In the words of Marion Scott in 1916: ‘To the public, Charles Wood is best known by his choral works and songs, but to composers and string players he is emphatically one of that small band of chamber music composers whose music really counts.’
The four works on this CD were all composed during the First World War. Their Irish inflections make them enjoyable both to perform and to hear.
