Giovanni Nesi’s new album focusses on the music of Bach but from a slightly different angle, using Brahms’ famous transcription for piano left hand of the chaconne from the second violin partita as a starting point. Nesi himself has transcribed two of the cello suites for the same medium and has included some of the Paul Wittgenstein arrangements of Bach’s music. Also included is a new work by contemporary Italian composer Claudio Sanna, Chaconne, which is heavily influenced by the music of the great master.

Chaconne from the Partita for solo violin No. 2 in D minor, BWV 1004 (transcribed by Johannes Brahms)

Cello Suite No. 1 in G Major, BWV 1007

Cello Suite No. 2 in D Minor, BWV 1008

Gigue from Partita No. 1 in B flat major, BWV 825 (transcribed by Paul Wittgenstein)

Siciliano from sonata for flute & keyboard No. 2 in E major, BWV 1031 (transcribed by Paul Wittgenstein)

Prelude in C Minor BWV 999

Prelude in C Major BWV 846
